Flipkart reportedly sold out over 80,000 Moto E units in a day

The budget Moto E that went on sale exclusively via Flipkart earlier this week has managed to recreate the Moto G magic. The value for money device went out of stock within a day. Flipkart said the device will be back in stock in the next 7 to 10 days.

Senior executives at Motorola Mobility told TOI that the e-retailer had stocked between 80,000 and 1 lakh units. The stocks were expected to last a few days but were completely sold out by Wednesday noon. Users can now key in their email address and Flipkart will notify them once the device is in stock. Flipkart has also reportedly scaled up its web services to manage the spike in traffic that it faced during the Moto G launch.

The senior executives reportedly also said that the sales have surpassed their highest expectations and the company is now arranging for more units from China. The company was better prepared this time to avoid lack of stock, said Magnus Ahlqvist, corporate vice-president for Europe, Apac, Middle East & Africa.

Moto E is aimed at entry-level users, and could put any budget Android to shame. It gets a slightly smaller 4.3-inch qHD display, and a pixel density of 256 ppi. The rugged device comes with waterproof capabilities, and the display is scratch-resistant. The device will come dipped in nine colours, and one can customize it with Motorola shells.

Under the hood, it is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with 1GB RAM. As expected, the Moto E runs Android KitKat 4.4 and the Motorola also guaranteed future updates. It maintains the 5-megapixel rear snapper, but disappointingly lacks a front-facing camera.

On the storage front, it gets 4GB internal memory that is expandable using a microSD card slot. The connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS. Besides, the Moto E is fuelled by a 1980mAH battery that promises all day battery life.
