Bitcoin: Business, Crime, and E-Books

The avant-garde virtual currency, Bitcoin, has gathered quite the buzz lately, and stands poised to change how we (mostly hipsters) pay for our daily venti mocha lattes. PandoDaily asked us to dig deeper into the mystery of Bitcoin so we looked at what the average Bitcoiner is really into and discovered that they aren’t so different from you and me (people who don’t denominate their transactions in encryption based currency). Here are some highlights:
  • Bitcoiners have a very strong interest in Business and Technology topics, with Business being the stronger of the two in both percentage of audience interested and density of topics.
  • The Technology topics tend to lean more toward online services and mobile electronics, particularly e-book readers.
  • They are very interested in government, crime, and law.
  • There is relatively low interest demonstrated in Entertainment and Sports in comparison to the general internet user audience.

Infographic: How the Galaxy S5 compares to the Samsung’s previous flagships

Infographic: How the Galaxy S5 compares to the Samsung’s previous flagships

Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 16MP camera and features such as improved HDR and Selective Focus mode.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S5 on Monday night at the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The new Samsung flagship has a 5.1-inch Full HD display, a 16-megapixel camera, a fingerprint scanner and a heart-monitor under the camera to name a few of the key features.

Samsung seems to have gone for less bling and over-the-top features this time and hasn’t updated the TouchWiz UI drastically other than changing the Settings app a bit. So how does the Samsung Galaxy S5 compare to previous versions of the smartphone? Well Samsung put out an infographic highlighting all the features and the evolution of the Galaxy S flagship line since the very first iteration, which put Samsung on the map. You can see how far the series has come.

Samsung's infographic on the S series of smartphones

The Galaxy S series over the years.

It must be noted that this infographic was put up by Samsung after an earlier one was taken down. That one showed the S5 in two variants, one with the quad-core processor and another with the Exynos 5422 octa-core SoC.

The most interesting takeaway from this infographic is the weight difference. Despite a display that’s more than a inch bigger, a larger sensor in the camera, plethora of sensors and a multi-core processor, the Galaxy S5 is only 27 g heavier than the first-gen Galaxy S, which is quite remarkable.

Not just quad-core: Samsung Galaxy S5 could get new Exynos 5422 octa-core processor soon

Not just quad-core: Samsung Galaxy S5 could get new Exynos 5422 octa-core processor soon

Samsung has shown off its new Exynos processors at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The South-Korean tech giant revealed the octa-core processor Exynos 5422 and the new hexa-core processor Exynos 5 Hexa (Exynos 5260), which we already experienced in the Galaxy Note 3 Neo. In addition to this the company has confirmed that it will launch a Galaxy S5 variant with the new octa-core variant.

According to Engadget, Samsung has already shown off such a variant at the MWC. Samsung had also put up an infographic on the Tomorrow blog detailing the evolution of the Samsung Galaxy S series. The infographic initially showed the S5 in two variants, which Samsung has since replaced with another that shows a single Galaxy S5 mode. You can view the original here.

The Exynos 5422 octa-core processor is based on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture comprised of four ARM Cortex- A15 cores clocked at up to 2.1 GHz and four ARM Cortex- A7 cores up to 1.5 GHz. This is the same configuration that was seen in the last-gen Exynos processor, but there’s one major difference. The 5422 comes with Heterogeneous Multi Processing (HMP) technology, which allows it to use all eight cores or any combination of them at the same time for improved performance. According to Samsung, the chip delivers up to 34 percent higher performance than previous Exynos Octa models.

To ensure that the chip supports bigger screen resolutions WQHD (2560 x 1440) and WQXGA (2560 x 1600), Samsung says it has adopted new solutions with proprietary mobile image compression (MIC) and adaptive hibernation technology. It also supports 4K Ultra HD resolution. With MIC, display data is compressed into half to minimize memory bandwidth requirement. The chip has been developed using a 28 nm manufacturing process; Samsung promises up to 10 percent lower power consumption than 32nm chips. The Exynos 5422 is scheduled for mass production in the first quarter of 2014.

Where Are The Top 100,000 Most Visited Websites Hosted?

Would it surprise you that almost half of the world’s top 100,000 most visited websites are hosted in North America? Leading the pack proudly with 4921 websites hosted on its servers is Amazon. Personally, I don’t think CloudFlare should have been included since it’s a CDN, but still it goes to show how popular the service is. If you haven’t activated CloudFlare on your website, this is why you should.
